Email Counselling- Therapeutic Online Connections
As the fast paced world we live in evolves with new technology and faster more convenient ways of connecting and communicating, especially online, we now have Email Counselling. How beneficial can it be to write into cyber space about your problems?
Some people simply prefer to write about their problems instead of talking about them to someone face to face. It may also be beneficial from a practical point of view as it may be difficult to make set appointments due to other committments. The process of writing can be extremely healing in itself, and provide some clarity and understanding which may not have come about by talking. When we write we have to really think about how to formulate ourselves and what we are trying to say. It can be a great tool in practicing self-awareness, which is the first step in trying to evoke change. Also, it can be comforting and useful to have a written reply by the counsellor, to read it a few times and go back to it as a reminder.
Everyone is different in how we deal with our emotions, some will have a preference to process their thoughts and feelings internally to make sense of them, and help them to reflect more deeply. Email counselling can be a great way of just reaching out to someone when you're not sure where to start, but need some guidance, someone to listen and share difficulties with, someone to help see things more clearly or just from another perspective in a therapeutic, helpful and caring way.
