Professor Peter Littlejohns of NICE has made a statement

Patients whose pain is not improving should have access to a choice of different therapies including acupuncture, structured exercise and manual therapy
Patients can opt for complementary treatments as follows:
8 Exercise session
Acupuncture for 10 sessions over a 12 week period
9 Sessions of manipulation of the spine, this could be massage or mobilisation
This is one more step to allowing complementary treatments been recognised by the NHS.
