The unique manuka honey from New Zealand has been growing in fame for its natural healing properties. There is now quite a bit of proper research to support its use in a variety of situations as a natural remedy, from digestive problems, to wound healing, leg ulcers, burns and more. However it is important to know that not all manuka honey is the same, and it naturally contains widely differing levels of the extra healing properties. Unfortunately this is forgotten is many press reports, and there is now a problem of 'passing off' of inferior manuka honey simply by referring to the research.
There are several good brands available, but the important thing you should look for is the 'UMF' trademark on the actual label of the jar (not just in the advertising). Don't be confused by other similar letters - UMV, UMP, AMF have all appeared in the UK, but are simply blatant cases of passing off and trying to mislead people. The true 'UMF' mark is a registered trademark, for consumer protection, so you can know that jar of honey does contain the stated level of healing property via an independent test. Even some health food stores are not sure what they are selling, so regardless of where you buy, or which brand, look for the 'UMF' registered trademark on the jar of it is the manuka honey for therapeutic use that you want.
