hi
your post was some time ago so dont know whether you are still interested!
I became type2 diabetic last year. I use Metformin for control, probably not quite as low as the doc would like but getting there.
I tried chromium tablets in parallel to the metformin, and reasonably regularly take them. I can't say I noticed a great difference on BS readings, but dont think they do me any harm.
One thing I did find interesting - when i started taking Metformin I got chronic diarrhoea from about 45 mins after taking the first tablet, and it stayed with me. Doc switched me to Pioglitazones which proved disastrous, so returned to metformin, but had a couple of sessions dealing with food intolerance with my acapuncturist, and hey presto I am now generally ok with metformin. As a lot of people react to Metformin and move on to other drugs or taking insulin, which is going to become increasingly in short supply as the diabetes 'epidemic' grows, this struck me as being something the NHS could consider to increase the proportion of people taking tablets.
cheers
Steve
